16-year-old A+ student Nagi Umino, a student in her second year at the high school Meguro River Academy, was switched at birth. He meets the brazen, outspoken Erika Amano by accident on the way to a dinner where he will meet his birth parents. Erika is determined to use Nagi as her fictitious boyfriend because she has no intention of ever getting married. But as Nagi arrives at dinner, he discovers that his parents have chosen to conveniently arrange for him to wed the daughter his birth parents raised—who happens to be none other than Erika herself—in order to address the hospital switch.

Shinichi concealed his identity and moved in with Ran, whose father also happened to be a hopeless detective, in order to track down the men who did this to him. Aragami, a strange race of creatures, have largely destroyed the earth in the year 2071, which is set in Japan. God Arcs, which are formed from an Aragami's cells, are used by the Fenrir organization to eradicate the Aragami. God Eaters are individuals that specialize in destroying Aragami. Originally, God Eaters only had one type, and their God Arcs could only maintain the shape of a gun or a blade. However, a new type has been found that can switch between gun and blade form. They have since been categorized as new types and the earlier ones as old types.
